Has anyone had the chance to try these tubes in audio/guitar amps ? If
yes how do they sound? are they worth the premium price ? I read the
filaments draw 6ooma is this accurate? there a fellow on ebay whose
selling a bunch off in auction of 5 10 20 120 tubes per auction. I'm

I tried a quad in a pair of late 1940s/early 1950s Craftsmen RC-2 hi-fi amps.
They sounded very good. I compared them to Canadian Westinghouse ST shaped
6V6Gs and they were equally good in different ways. FWIW, the 5992 received
the high score in the VTV 6V6 hi-fi test, but received a low score in the
guitar amp test (see VTV #10).

I contacted the seller of the ones that you mention and asked how he acquired
so many. He wrote back that his grandfather was a navy radio man and they were
cleaning out his house. Up until now, these have been fairly rare and pricey.
However, since the seller has literally "flooded the market", it may be the
best time to pick up a pair or quad and try them out for yourself.
