What's the deal with the new Sovtek 7199?
I am needing to get at least one new 7199 for an amp of mine and want to do
it on the cheap so I am looking at the Sovtek. I have received several warnings about them though. What are the issues or differences between a NOS and the new Sovtek? TIA, Bryan |

Hi ,
Strong humming when AC heated. I don't know the tube (or any 7199) but if that's the only problem , just rectify the heaters and use a LM2940-5 and 2 diodes . The LM2940-5 is a sorta low drop 7805 . Even pin compatible . Regards , Ronald . |

Agreed........
My experience was not good with Sovtek 7199 either. Of the 10 pieces that I puchased, only 2 of them actually worked in my Harman Kardon A700 amplifier, the rest exhibited intolerable hum. It would be nice if Sovtek would publish their tube data sheets like Svetlana does. Maybe with technical facts or Tektronix 571 test curves, we might be able to determine why the Sovtek 7199's have such a bad reputation. BR/ Rich |
