Default extracting vocal from CD

I'd like to be able to take just the vocal from a short section ( 2
words ) of a song I have on an obscure record (CD)
I can convert it to .WAV but how do I clean up some of the background
sounds like the drums or bass?

Thanks in advance for the help

You can't. The vocal eliminator trick (difference of two channels) does
not work in reverse. A couple times a year people ask to be able to do
something like this, and the answer is always the same.

To some extent, you can emphasize the vocals by using an equalizer
filter on a wave editing program. Check out the free Audacity wave
editor. Bass is usually a low frequency and cymbals are high. By
cutting out the very low and very high, you'll be left with the
mid-range frequency - this is usually where vocals are. This isn't a
perfect solution. And you'll have to experiment quite a bit to obtain
reasonable results.

You can also try Center Channel Extractor for Adobe Audition (1.5 or
later) which can be used to reduce or emphasize any chosen part of the
stereo field. Don't expect miracles, however.

I get asked to do this all the time, there is no way to extract one element
of a full mix of instrumnets with making it sound like total ass, your
useage will dertermine weather this is ok or not.

Its a bit like baking a cake, then after its all finished asking to take
the eggs out.

Hey! Where's your sense of community? Assuming you have the program and
have used the tool, why not offer to process a song for they guy rather
than telling him to buy the program himself and find out if it works
for him (or not)?

Don't we have the technology YET? g

Well, he can download demo of the program and try it himself!

Or use any other audio editor program than takes DX plugins, and use the
free VocalRemover from www.analogx.com .

The Center Channel Extractor is much more advanced than the AnalogX's
Vocal remover.

That's just a phase reverser, isn't it? Not comparable with the
tools in Audition.

That's too easy. He doesn't want to remove what's in the center, he
wants to remove what's NOT in the center. RTFM(essage).
