the most obvious solution is.....

DONT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

polyurethane (like industrial plastic wrap - you can get scraps from contractors) or waterproof foam. you could put it underneath and around the sides but dont cover the heatsink. you really want to make sure that you have air around the amp so it will dissipate heat. again why a lot of manufacturers are going to smaller processes which generate less heat. (look at blaupunkts PA4100, farenheits ultra slim line, etc. so it allows for more flexibility in amp mounting location) most installers will put an amp under the seat but it is generally easier not to. I personally dont reccomend it unless you have an amp that can still perform in low air volume situation - wont overheat as easily. or, a smaller vehicle design that dont allow you to put it anywhere else.

i aint saying dont do it, but see if you an try something else instead.

Yeah, last night I decided to get creative with some of the high density
particle board I had laying around. Here is what I came up with for
mounting the amp in the trunk:

I screwed the mounting plane into the fender well. It also butts up
against the top structure of the trunk, forming an extremely sturdy
mounting surface. It doesn't move at all when I try and force it. I
think it will hold up nice for a long time. At some point, I would like
to paint it, but for now, I don't want to remove it from the trunk, as
it was a bitch getting it in there.

I did the exact same thing except behind the rear tire well. it worked out
ecellent and i put some rubber washers on there to prevent vibration. it is
rock solid and i great way to display the amps you are using. it is also
easier to tune them in that location, than mounting them ontop of a
enclosure ot on the rear seatback.

Sweet! Got the Civic like mine! Looks like a 96-00 model, though.
Mine's a 94 DX Coupe. Currently I've got nothing in my rear deck, as
my 3 JL 10W3's blew through the Pioneers' surrounds that I had in
there. Looks bad with two holes, but I guess it's just a stealth
install right? :-) How do you solve that problem, or are your
Blaupunkt's able to keep up? I didn't see any subs, do you use a tire
well box? Thanks for answering my questions.

Funny you caught that. YES, I had those concrete screws in my toolbox
now for 4 years. I finally had a use for them, as I could not find any
sheet metal screws short enough to do the job. It was 11 pm, and there
was no way I was going to find a place open to sell me the "right"
screws.

have to have someone else hold the box up while I put the spare tire
back in.

NICE!! What is that, a 15? I'm always partial to Kicker, since they're
about 75 miles down the road in Stillwater, Okla. (I'm in OKC). I'm
wondering how you're going to do it when that spare tire becomes
necessary :-).

I will set them lower, but I might just run out and purchase some better
speakers for the rear fill. My Blaupunkts blew because the amp I had
was rated at the same wattage as the speakers. When I cranked the amp,
the distortion at that volume blew the speakers. This time, I am
driving the speakers with an amp that is rated higher than the speaker.
That way, when I crank up, I will not push the amp into clipping, and
theoretically, the speakers will produce nice clean, loud audio.

I was considering carrying a 12 volt air pump, a can of fix a flat, and
a plug kit ... between the three, I should be ok, unless the tire shreds
from the wheel. BUT, I will have the spare with me, so I should be able
to jimmy the spare out of the trunk if necessary ... I'll practice and
make sure.

I decided based on specs and recommendations alone. In another post,
someone in here recommended them to me. I have not heard any of this
equipment yet.

flexing the metal of the fender without attaching the top with an "L"
or something similar to the top of the trunk.

I definitely considered this, but after putting the screws in, and
feeling how strong the hole thing was, that amp will do nothing to wood
or the metal. The fender well seems to be spot welded to the outer body
of the car, so I feel really confident about this setup. Four screws is
quite a bit of fastening. That fender well is really sturdy.
