Default Subwoofer out vs. Center Channel out (RCA cable)

I have an Onkyo TX-DS787.

My powered sub is connected via a Monster Subwoofer (mono) cable. My
center channel out (RCA) is not used. Recently I started having a
problem with the subwoofer where it was cutting in and out. I had the
subwoofer serviced and there was no problem. So it's the Onkyo.

I unplugged the subwoofer cable from the Onkyo and plugged it into the
Center Channel out. The subwoofer now stays on.

My question is am I getting the same performance having it connected
this way?

Thanks in advance!

No, subwoofer channel is dedicated to low frequencies form other channels
redirected to the sub
and LFE (low frequency effects).
You can't get these things from the center.

Sounds like monster killed another connector/solder joint.
