Strange problem that seems to be documented on newsgroups all over the
place, but without a solution or reason for this happening.

At the very end of a burned CD there is a loud glitch that occurs when
played in consumer CD players; walkmans, car CD players, boom boxes. The
glitch is a fraction of a second long and sound like a full range 0dbfs
square wave/white noise thing. The strange thing is that it only occurs
in wavelab 5.01, but not in Nero Express. The burner is an LG HL-DT-ST
4520b CD-RW/DVD combo.

The next strange thing is that my HP DVD630c DVD+R writer doesn't burn
with this error. So basically when burned in Wavelab with the LG, it get
the loud glitch at the end of the CD, when burned in Wavelabe with the
HP it burns perfectly.

I updated firmware for both drives, and both are running the appropriate
drivers. Any idea what's happening?

And i forgot to mention that upon extracting the last 'problem' track of
the burned cd, the audio glitch that is audible on a consumer player
cannot be seen in the waveform.

Perhaps some of the RIFF metadata being incorrectly
interpereted as part of the waveform data block.
Complain to Wavelab. Or switch to software that
works properly.

What software was used for the extraction? Did you try other
extraction software, specifically Exact Audio Copy?

Try 'align track markers to CD frames' in the Wavelab montage.
I think it's called that anyway. I've not had problems with Wavelab so
far, though I'm version 4 at the moment.

There's a setting to put track markers on CD frame boundaries. I'm
not sure why anyone would ever want NOT to do this, but the setting is
there and may have become reset.

Sorry, I don't have Wavelab on this machine so can't give precise
details.

Burner malfunction!

i had the same problem 4 years ago with a samsung cd writer.
I tried with the newest firmware available but no result.
Since the equipement was still under warranty the dealer quick replaced
it with a new one. Problem solved.

The problem was exactly the same for me, big glitch at the end of the
audio but no glitch in the audio files ripped-back from it.

the option is called "Quantize to CD frame" and is available in the
"red" marker creation dialog.
But...
Wavelab simply REFUSES to burn if you don't use it.
And, following the "red book" specification, if the track lenght is NOT
a multiple of 1/75 sec (frame), it will be rounded to the previous frame
boundary, or in the worst cases, filled with silence samples (all zeros).
In this last case is possible to have a glitch but only if the last
sample of the last track is not silence (usually we apply a FADE OUT at
the end of the CD so the last sample is often, if not always, zero!)
