Mission SM6A Active Monitors for home use?
Does anyone have any experience using these active monitors from Mission for home use? It claims to have been designed to accommodate home hi-fi use and features a line-level, single-ended (RCA) input. Does anyone know what the input impedance on this line-level input is? I would like to know if it's possible to drive these using tube preamps with 1k ohm to 2k ohm output impedance. Thanks.

JC I don't have any experience specifically of the Mission 'speakers, but 25+ years of active 'speakers generally. I would expect the input impedance of the 'speakers to be 10kohms, so it would be perfectly possible to use them with a pre-amp with a 1-2k output impedance, using typical domestic-length coaxial cables to each 'speaker. The problem with excessive cable lengths is that the capacitance of the cable will cause the treble to droop. However, with cables having a typical capacitance of, say, 150pF/m and a cable length of 10 metres, the 3dB point will be 50kHz with a 2kohm output impedance, so unlikely to be a problem. S. |
