Looking for a high efficiency 2 channel power amp.
Ideally using a switching PSU for minimum size.
For use in an active speaker system.
Anyone know of a manufacturer?

I'll be following this post too, I'd like to find a supplier of small,
lightweight, class D power amp modules and have had little luck with
Google. For a keyboard amp/mixer head I'm designing.

Most interesting so far is www.d2audio.com

Active speakers don't need amps.

Anyone know of a manufacturer?

I think they do if you're *building* them.

I hope that in a few years it [Wikipedia] will be so bloated that it
will simply disintegrate, because I can't stand the thought that this
thing might someday actually be used as a serious reference source.
Because in its current form, it's not to be taken seriously at all.

If you are a manufactuter see: http://www.tripath.com/

These are not finished modules in the sense that you would bolt them
into a speaker cabinet, but they are great for design-in.

may be:

http://www.hypex.nl/

These are UCD based, probably the best class D technology available.

They do if I am the manufacturer.
Or do you think such speaker systems run on magic?

I can thoroughly recommend either the UCD180 or UCD400 modules from
Hypex.

I think the website is www.hypex.nl

I've bought from them and they are well set-up for international orders.

Only if they're audiophile active speakers.

Which need solid silver enclosures (where superconductors are
impractical, of course).

The problem I'm finding is that although the amps are small, the PSUs
with xformer are *massive*. That's why I need an integral switcher like
Powersoft.

Good looking amps, no good PSU

How small do you need the amp and PSU? What sort of spec do you need
for the amp? A SMSPU for this application could (would) be bigger than
a toridial and a couple of caps. We design this type of kit...

At the present time, audio amplifiers don't have to implement
power-factor-correction, so a 300W (say) switching PSU would simply
bridge rectify the mains, and then feed it to a 2-transistor forward
converter stage. You could get adequate power out of an ETD49 core
running at 100kHz or so.

All the SMPSs I've seen in audio amps are considerably *smaller* than
conventional ac line frequency types.
