You left out Belden as one of the "big" wire makers.
Personally, in order to avoid junk, I generally make my own cables using the Neutrik connectors for microphones (low impedence) and if I need TRS I use Switchcraft (also for unbalanced) as i do not like the Neutrik phono jacks. Pro Co makes decent cables. I have a few guitar and speaker types of theirs, have had them for over ten years and they're still working. Canare and Belden tend to be too pricey for me, which is why I build my own. For the money, I can customize the length and know that they've been built correctly. That said, for snakes, i generally let someone else do the building. Now THAT's a pain in the solder. --Fletch |

Thanks for the opinions. |

Pro-Co Audio-Technica Audix Canare CAD Monster They should all be fine. Doubt than any sound any different at all, especially over short distances. The star-quad ones may have extra attenuation that will be come apparent at hundreds of KHz due to the extra shunt capacitance, especially in longer lengths.. geoff |

Pro-Co Have some of their stuff, fine. Audio-Technica Audix CAD Like Mike Rivers said, these are probably OEM'd from some other manufacturer. Canare Never had any of their prebuilt stuff, but it's my favorite wire to make my own with. Monster Overpriced overmarketed junk. Mogami is also very very good. Easier to work with than Canare for mic cables because of the overwrap shield. Whirlwind themselves also make decent cables. Stay away from Hosa. --Vas |

What makes you think one cable is that much different from another ? There are some interesting differences in construction and that affect flexibilty for example but I suspect that's probably not what you're thinking of. You can also get some elaborate shields but you're going to fine with something 'standard' I'm sure. You've already been advised that one of the most important issues is the *connector*. Most pros like Neutrik. Many pros here use Markertek to supply their cables. In the UK I'd advise VDC. These are companies that specialise in supplying the needs of pros and you don't have to pay a boutique price either. Graham |

Pro-Co Audio-Technica Audix Canare CAD Monster Add to your short list: Blue - above avg. connecters and strain relief - highly visible green cable sheathing is easily seen (less likely stepped on). Monster 500 - avg. connecters and strain relief - heavy cable sheathing. Mogami 2534. - avg. connecters and strain relief - light cable sheathing Cardas 2x24M - Thinking about it, waiting for an impulse rationalization. |

It seems to have alot of industry support. I'm talking to Markertek. They make up cables with Canare star quad wire and Neutrik connectors. Select from many colors. |

Looks like good cable. I like the idea of buying cables in multiple
colors... I've always just used black, but having each length of cable in a different cable sure would be quick. Like I need more mic cables. Gads! Bob, let us know what you think of them after you've used them a while. Corey |

I'm under the impression that stepping on cables hastens the break-in process with commensurate improvements in soundstaging and microdynamics. ;-) Seriously, any cable that does poorly when stepped on is hoplessly useless. IOW, avoiding stepping on cables is like avoiding getting wet when taking a shower. |
