I found this amp with two empty tube sockets inside, but can't find any
info on this amp via web searches - anyone know what kind of tubes it
could use? I intend to try it out with some shure 57/58 type
microphones or possibly an electric guitar signal... TIA.

This looks like a transistor amp to me.
The tube sockets are likely for optional transformers and/or
correction (RIAA) networks.

There's no question they are for xfmrs. These were commonly put on
octal and "11-pin-octal" bases, and in fact still are.
