Does not sell SE output transformers,
I was looking specifically for SE09-S, thanks KC On Tue, 19 Apr 2005 11:26:48 +0300, "Iain M Churches" wrotf: wrote in message .. . Hi- Sorry to bother, does anyone supply these brands in the US? thanks KC Sowter's dealer in the USA: www.prodigy-pro.com Iain |

I still just don't think toroids are suitable output transformers.

Maybe the man hasn't heard music via toroids. But toroidal cores have a huge iron µ of maybe 40,000, since the GOSS strip is all wound in the same grain direction and there is no join like C-cores, or cross grain magnetic paths as with E&I lams which cause the µ to be lower than 40,000. Such a high µ isn't needed though and is in fact a potential problem if the current in each 1/2 of a PP tranny becomes unbalanced because high µ material tends to easily saturate appruptly with increasing LF signal in the presence of a mild DC flow in one direction. Presumably Plitron who sell renowned toroidal OPTs place a gap in their SE OPTs. Air gaps placed into PP trannies are quite permissable providing an adequate amount of primary inductance at LF can be maintained with a gap present. Usually such a gap is only feasible if the iron µ is high to begin with, and the gap is usually far smaller than what would be used with an SE design. With an air gap in a toroid, the maker must make some effort to make sure the gap is well glued, or held in place, and I can only assume Plitron know what they are doing in this regard, and that normal handling won't spring the gap open. If the US agent does not stock the SE09s, is there anything to
prevent you from ordering it directly from Sowter UK? Iain wrote in message ...
