Terrible Noise Using Microphone
I recently purchased a Behringer Eurorack SB802 (preamp) and a
condenser mic to use with Cool Edit Pro 2.0. It took me forever to get any reading whatsoever into my computer, but now every time I hit the record button, a terrible noise plays through the speakers(headphones). It seems that my readings are very sensitive when I don't try to record. For example, if I just speak into the microphone, the sound comes through just fine when the gain and volume levels are low. When I raise them even a little the sound gets distorted. When I try to play back a recording, the terrible noise is practically the only thing I can hear. I don't hear any voice. Perhaps what I hear is the voice, but really really muffled. I don't know what to do. Please help? |

Just a guess here, but is your microphone in close proximity to the monitor speakers? Could that "terrible noise" be acoustic feedback? Try turning off the speakers and using headphones and see if you get the same results. AT It seems that my readings are very sensitive when I don't try to record. It seems that my readings are very sensitive
when I don't try to record. For example, if I just speak into the microphone, the sound comes through just fine when the gain and volume levels are low. When I raise them even a little the sound gets distorted. I didn't find a Behringer SB802 in the catalog I have handy, could it be the UB802? The thought that crossed my mind is that you might be sending a line level signal from the preamp to the microphone input of your sound card. This would create the results you describe. You should use the line input or if there isn't one, select line input on the sound card control screen rather than microphone. Lee Salter ) |

You arent by any chance feeding the output from the soundcard back into the mixer are you ? and then feeding that signal back into the soundcard hence causing a feedback loop ?
