tube rolling dilemma
I enjoy "tube rolling" in guitar amps, and subbing out 12AX7 with 12AT7,
5751, 12AY7 etc. problem is, I have an amp that uses a 6EU7, and it doesn't appear to have any pin compatible "rolling" prospects. what is the trick to tube rolling in this amp (besides just other brands of 6EU7), I want to try a different amplification factor with a minimum of fuss (guitar players don't like a lot of fuss, it needs to be "plug & play" when I am done. I also don't want to convert it to the 12AXX family, as I like the unique sound of 6EU7 (and family?, is there such a family?) ideas? |

Try to buy a PL802-E (SS replacement for PL802) and use the connector
to make an adaptor-socket ....... "arizona cowboy" cacheoverflowATyahoo.com schreef in bericht ... Cowboy,
The 6EU7 was designed for as a low noise phono preamp tube, thus the different base pinout configuration. give it a look, and you will see why. Great tube. not cheap though Vin "arizona cowboy" cacheoverflowATyahoo.com wrote in message ... Hi,
I find that 6550s roll pretty straight, but 300Bs go around in circles and break when they hit chair legs. Cheers, Alan |

Cowboy,
The only cousin I know of is the 20EZ7. Maybe there is a European equivalent? Carroll "arizona cowboy" cacheoverflowATyahoo.com wrote in message ... Other than the pinout, the 6EU7 has identical characteristics to the 12AX7, and if you get a 12AX7 and a 6EU7 from the same manufacturer & vintage, you'll see they're identical internally. OTOH, you can probably get good NOS versions (like RCA & Sylvania) of 6EU7 cheaper than you can get similar 12AX7, just because there's a lot less demand for 6EU7. -- Ned Carlson Triode Electronics www.triodeelectronics.com |

The Russian 6N2P (often written 6H2n) is a 6EU7 indeed, and should be
reasonably cheap. AFAIK it's a family of one, so You should put some switch in there to connect 6.3V either to pins 4&5 (as in 6EU7) or (4+5) & 9 in order to fit the 12XX family. Watch out....
