Default ADCOM GFA 555 Input RCA Phono Jack Question

A friend of mine gave me his late brothers GFA 555 amp for which I have
a question regarding the input jacks. It seems that his brother had
this set up in a bridge configuration, and looks like he may have
removed the outer shields of the RCA Phono input jacks. I would like to
reverse this and use it in the twol channel mode, but after seeing
these jacks I don't think it is as simple as moving the switch back to
"non-bridge". Was this normal practice to remove the outer shields?
were they designed to be removed?

I sold my 555 a while back but, iirc, there was no standard provision
for removing the shields from the jacks and, frankly, no good reason.
You need them to physically support the connection at the jack and you
can ignore them by not connecting them electrically. I guess you'll
have to replace the jacks.

Hello,

I'm not familiar with any bridging circuit on the GFA 555, but the
ground collars do pull off the RCA jacks, especially when using overly
tight fitting 'audiophile' cables. You'll need new jacks. I don't
think Adcom has the originals any more.

I recall that mine had a bridging switch on the rear panel and it also
appears on the schematic I have.

They don't. When I phoned and asked them about the RCA jacks, they told
me to go to Radio Shack and quit asking for old parts. (really!)
