Porting
I have 2 Alpine Type R-10" in a Fusion box (1.0 cu ft per woofer). I
would like to port this box but I was wondering the best way. The top and back of it are covered by amps and I can not port there. The only place that is free is on the sides of it where the port would not be facing anything. Are the PNR ports that Fusion offers wort the extra cost also? |

whay do you want to port it?
what frequency do you want to tune it to? Bryan Jackson wrote: I have 2 Alpine Type R-10" in a Fusion box (1.0 cu ft per woofer). I would like to port this box but I was wondering the best way. I would like more bass and have no money for a new amp. I have a
cheepy amp on it (a "1600" watt Lanzar rack mount amp). "ReEfErMaDnEsS" wrote in message news:JIvQb.142060$na.223264@attbi_s04... why port it.....underpowered??? You can't just stick a port in a box that's already sealed & designed for a
specific woofer. Of course, I don't know anything about Fusion, so maybe it's not even optimal for your Alpine woofer to begin with. In which case, who knows? Ported boxes will be a specific size for a specific woofer. The port will be a certain size as well. For a given woofer, a ported and sealed box will be different internal volumes. And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact "Eddie Runner" wrote in message ... whay do you want to port it? what frequency do you want to tune it to? Crap, that's a tiny box. Actually it's a little big for the Type-R 10 sealed. No, you can not port it. He could, but it would be tuned a bit higher than most people would like. The proper port size for such a box would be a drinking straw cut in half. OK, that's just exaggerating. It is optimized for air pressure rather than air volume. WTF does this mean? Air pressure IS volume dumbass. Sensitivity is only 85dB as a result. Your options are to give the woofers more power or replace them. Or make a new box. Paul Vina |

Air pressure IS volume dumbass. It's a matter of leverage; load matching. The voicecoil is wound for working against the high back pressure of a small enclosure at the cost of excursion. You can put it on a bigger box but it won't gain much. It would probably just raise the impedance. Subs for large enclosures have a different voice coil and softer suspension. They don't have the force to work well in a small enclosure but they can gets lots of excursion from little power when they're in a large enclosure. Sensitivity is only 85dB as a result.
