Bizarre Duet...your thoughts please
I've been working with a very talented singer named Dean Hayek (the new Elvis),
for about a year or so. Dean is an Elvis stylist. He wanted to do a remake of Suspicious Minds. I couldn't see the point... at fist. So we decided to do a techno dance version, something like the recent Elvis release of "A Little Less Conversation". One day, Dean was doing a scratch vocal to a work track that I'd just finished, when another client of mine Bam Bam (powerhouse voice, but quirky style) came by. Bam immediately started singing along with Dean. The idea of a duet came to my mind. They both disagreed, thought it was the wrong song for a duet, and just plain didn't want to sing together. But I heard something, and I'm the producer. So I put this thing together, and I would like to know if you guru's think it could be a hit? I know I could get a couple of black eyes, from your opinions.. but I asked for it. Please download this file, rather than stream. Much better quality. www.kingofsong.com/suspicious.html Steve Dolmer |

Elvises with solid acts are changing car oil in Vegas, while they wait for fry cook jobs to open up. The genre reached a peak with Andy Kaufman and has declined ever since. On the other hand I'd really like to see El Vez (the Latino Elvis!) again. Why don't you, your singer, and BamBam agree to be locked in a room and let out when you have an original act that does not involve Elvis? That's serious advice. He can still wear the sequined boots or whatever. |

Based on your description, I was prepared to either really love it or really
hate it. But I think this is just a little too faithful to the spirit of the original Elvis hit to elicit much passion. Sometimes you really have to mess up something beyond recognition to make it your own. When the Carpenters' debut cover of "Ticket to Ride" hit the airwaves, I was convinced that any group capable of such a brilliant reworking would probably never be heard from again. Guess I was wrong... ....Paul -- ************************************************** ******** "In the analog realm, it ain't "OVER" 'til it's over." "SDOLMER" wrote in message ... In that case, yup. I vaguely remember the original being The Big E harmonizing with himself, but last people I did that song with, we'd duet the verses, then throw a third and maybe fourth part in on chorii. What I really wanted, was for you guys to download the song and listen to it.
So far the website shows no downloads have taken place as of 11:46pm 03,22,04. But 6 opinions. I know an Elvis impersonator doing an Elvis song is dumb. But this thing has a big twist to it. It's a duet with one guy who is a near clone of Presley, the other sounds like nobody on earth. A very unusual combo. Take a listen. |

A very unusual combo. Take a listen. I didn't care for it. The first part (vocalist) just sounded like a remix of the original. When the other vocalist came in (which sounded like Tom Jones to me) I didn't know what to think. If you hadn't told me it was a duet I wouldn't have known (is it the same guy singing in two different "Vegas styles", etc.). Anyway, it doesn't work as a duet. And neither artist is original enough, much less original enough to "cover" a song exactly in they style they are clones of. Not trying to be harsh, just truthful. |

I began to download about 6:30 PM and was cut off about 75% through the
song. So perhaps that would not register with the site's counter. Whether or not this might have happened to any of the others whose word you question, or whether they will take the time to so inform you, I cannot say... ....Paul -- ************************************************** ******** "In the analog realm, it ain't "OVER" 'til it's over." I began to download about 6:30 PM and was cut off about 75% through the
song. I was cut off at 50% and couldn't get it to download again as of last nite. --------------------------------------- "I know enough to know I don't know enough" |

It's too close to the original arrangement to be any interesting to my taste. Be it one or two guys singing, they're just doing what was done already (and was done better), and I don't hear much techno/ dance into it either. IMO, "Little less conversation" was way more original, and that was a remix, not a remake! Luck, Arjan -- ----Real email: news then at then soundbyte then dot then nl---- |
