Default Misc. Mixing - Audio Enhancing

I have (what I think are original) multi-tracks. My first attempts sounded okay, but not good enough. This wasn't a favorite song, but heard it enough on radio to give me a clue how to mix. I purchased the 2015 Remaster and studied it. Without a doubt, it used (what I call) the echo tracks for a denser sound. I wanted to have greater stereo, and using all the echo tracks just make it near mono. So I used one and it improved my mix, but not quite all there. So, I gave it a light dynamic boost and that really helped. I like this, but don't like how the ending mirrors the guitar and keyboard. The "hit" fades, but this does not...

Now, let's head back to the 60's. You may remember Johnny Cymbal (AKA Derek) and his "Cinnamon" hit of 1968. It's written that the tape(s) was were lost, but we discovered by Bob Irwin (Sundazed Records), a (4) track master.. But on the Columbia/Sony, 1991 CD, it sounded like a wilted flower, lifeless, when it should have killer sound.
Not sure who mixed to stereo, but Vic Anesini is credited for "Remastering". Maybe the master tape had spent sound, but you couldn't hear much music.. Maybe it was later reworked, but not sure where. First time stereo, with a greater dynamic boost than above song. Better, but a ways to go (need multi-tracks)!!...

I tried to find The Lovin' Spoonful's hits in decent stereo sound (Buddah lable CDs - Bob Irwin), but their, "Darlin' Be Home Soon", John's vocals just gets buried and the orchestral piece (bridge) is way too loud!! I checked (& purchased) one of these (recent) "Playlist" CD snippets and it SOUNDS like someone repaired it. I attribute the audio improvement to digital software that they didn't have ages ago!! Granted, they could have used electronic compression, but I don't think that was commonly used during remastering.
