Mackie 1604VLZ pro and speakers.
Hey,
I'm in charge of a small show tonight where I'll be setting up the sound equipment. I've worked with sound equipment for about 2 years, but I've never used this Mackie 1604VLZ pro. I have two powered Mackie speakers that I'm not sure how to hook up. I do not have the manual for the speakers. My question is: The sound board that I'm used to using has two clear XLR ports for the speakers, where as I don't see that for the Mackie. How do I hook up these speakers? I see two 1/4" ports that look like they may be for the speakers, but I'm not sure. Also, do the speakers hook up to the snake at all? I know some of this may be simple stuff, but please don't give me sarcasm and the typical "read the manual". I really need some help because later tonight I'll have 45 minutes to set this system up, and I need to make sure I get the speakers right. Thanks |

Initially set the gain pot on the speakers at unity gain The 1/4" TRS outputs on the mixer duplicate the signal that's at the XLR outputs, so if you don't have two spare mic cables to connect the mixer to the speakers you can patch make the connection using a pair of 1/4" TRS (three conductor) cables. In a pinch you could use a regular guitar cable for this, but you might well be asking for trouble there if it's an RF/EMF noisy environment. -- shut up and play your guitar * http://hankalrich.com/ http://armadillomusicproductions.com/who'slistening.html http://www.sonicbids.com/HankandShai...withDougHarman |

They didn't have enough room on the panel for them. You'll want to use the MAIN 1/4" outputs. Since this is a line level signal and there's no significant power, you can run them through the snake if it has the proper connections. -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |
