Default Acoustic Research ARNC01 reviews???

Anyone got any idea about these noise canceling headphones? They have
been out there for a few years and there are NO REVIEWS anywhere
significant (I found two on some European site but they look so
suspiciously short and similar that they look like they have been put
there by Audiovox's PR department). Are they a quality AR product or
a poxy Audiovox one? I cant believe that no one bought them because
of the AAAA battery but suddenly there are lots out there on offer for
just over $15.

If someone at AR has put their minds to noise cancellation, they could
be a technological marvel and a smash hit (so why no reviews!!) but
most noise canceling products out there have multiple reviews saying
that the NR function doesnt work adequately for the user. ( I had a
pair of old Philips HNC50 phones which cost five bucks that had this
problem and I completely cured it by replacing the pathetic silicon
buds for memory foam ones sold for the Grado headphones: Then the
sound was amazing and the NC suddenly started working.)

Or are they just some old Philips or Sony design which they arent
selling any more which Audiovox has bought and re-packaged?

So are the headphones bad? Are they good? I dunno. But
the "AR" logo on them is purely cosmetic. They could well
be great, they could well be junk.

Sounds like they are just a me-too product as I implied in my OP (ALL
these designs seem to have the same characteristic reviews: Works OK,
no real bass but no real noise cancellation), bought by Audiovox to
reformat in a smaller package. I already have those Philips ones lying
around somewhere and only really wanted these for when I dont want to
carry around the real thing (fabulous Sennheisers of course)

As to whether they are good or bad, I see no reason to think that
Audiovox had spent a ton of money on developing something themselves
really great in the NC field and then either not sold it (as suggested
by the total lack of reviews anywhere) or not priced it to make a
whole lot of money by competing with Bose or not advertised it to sell
to people who dont want to pay hundreds of dollars for Bose. The real
reason for the OP was because I hadnt come across this business of
Audiovox coming out with anything in the HiFi field and was intrigued
by their owning AR.

Oh, and one other thing intrigued me, Audiovox's geographical
location which is suspiciously similar to the location of the original
company which introduced these things to the consumer market,
NoiseBuster. Their Extremes, which I also have, work OK, have no
real bass but noise cancellation is interesting in that it can BE
ADJUSTED!! They apparently stopped selling these consumer grade
products (and moved to Ct?) when Sony introduced their heavily
advertised NC headphones which didnt work as well. I also have some
Sony MDR-NC6 (Works OK, no real bass but no real noise cancellation),
some suspiciously similar looking Sharper Image NC ones (Works OK, no
real bass but no real noise cancellation) and of course the PXE250s.

I just wondered whether anyone at NoiseBuster in Hauppauge went to
work for AR/Audiovox in Hauppauge if it was the same NoiseBuster
company which now makes industrial headphones in Ct. I was intrigued
at the idea of anyone other than Sennheiser marrying HiFi with genuine
NC.
