Default "aes for audiophiles"?

hello,

i was wondering if there is the equivalent of AES for super-expensive
stereo stuff. something in a convention center where all the
"rolls-royce" manufacturers of audiophile consumer audio strut their
stuff.

X,

stereo stuff.

Sorry to say you just missed one of the big events. The Home Entertainment
Show was held from Thursday through Sunday last week at the Hilton hotel in
New York City. There are other shows that cater to audiophiles, but some
like the Consumer Electronics show (CES) also include cell phones and other
non-audio electronic gear.

Yes. See www.stereophile.com and, again, yes, about the shows. Two
this year. One was last week in NYC and the next is in November in
San Francisco.

You are suggesting a cellphone is not adequate for playing
overcompressed music in the MP3 format?

The Consumer Electronics Show which is in Las Vegas in January is
about as close to that as you'll get. They don't have technical papers
(they do have papers and workshops but most are about marketing
strategies and things for home video installers) but they have a whole
suite-type hotel with demo rooms for some of the most outlandish
stuff. In fact, just within the past couple of weeks, someone posted a
link to a web page with some photos from the show.

And a hilarious joust of images it is! Dig the very last one...

Stereophile show in NYC used to be like that, but it's getting more and
more taken over by home theatre stuff from what I can see. The CES show,
though, has a very large high end home audio presence, and they have
rather recently split the high end audio folks off to a seperate venue.
(For a while, the high end audio and the porn people used to share the
Sands hotel, which was always very interesting).

But when he was mastering, did he use discrete components, or was it a plug-in?

More than an exhibition of manufacturers, the AES is a peer review
organization for advancing the science of audio, acoustics, and
electronics. Such an organization for the audiophile consumer audio
community would be disastrous for manufacturers and dealers who depend
on consumer ignorance to support their inflated prices and gimmicky
products.
