Default Digidesign Xpand! softsynth opinions

I'm looking at the Digi 002 factory bundle and I see that they have
included a softsynth called Xpand!
Has anyone used this plug-in? It supposedly ships with over 1000 preset
patches.

How would you say the presets compare with the stock sounds in a
Kurzweil K2600 as far as variety and quality of sounds & effects?

Thanks,
Jonathan

It's a free instrument from DIgi. Don't need to buy a factory bundle
to get it. Your dealer should be able to give you the install disk.
That's how I got mine.

I'm not familiar with the K2600 (except that I always hated working
with people who insisted on using their K2000s, which I thought sounded
terrible), but Xpand is very usable. Even though the filters aren't
humongously beefy sounding, that's not the only judging parameter
anymore anyway. It does hold its own against the inexpensive sound
engines I've tried. There are lots of useful presets. The effects
are decent enough that I don't feel the need to turn them off (unless I
don't want them).

For free there was never an issue of whether or not to put it in there
: ) It gets used, especially when you can stick some crazy plugs
after it so easily.

I don't now the sounds of the Kurzweil, but I do like some of the Xpand
sounds. I'm using the Hammond B w/leslie on a track I'm working on now.

After only one or two jumps into Xpand, there's a lot going on with the
different levels of sounds you can layer and the effects you can add.

Ty Ford
