Default AKG C12 - Recommend Good, Less Expensive Mic

would like to get 2 akg c12's but can't really afford them. any
Really good substitutes for less money?

What is it that you like about the C12? And what do you want to do with
them?

You could consider an older 414/EB, if you could be sure that it had the
original C12-style capsule in it. They aren't cheap, but they are cheaper
than the C12. Unfortunately a lot of them have been updated with the more
modern capsule, so you will want to buy from someone who knows what he is
selling and that you can trust.

The 414B/ULS has a more modern capsule design, but it has the top end pretty
much the same even if the upper midrange is different.

Stay away from the SolidTube, which is total trash.

The Red Microphones R6 capsule is somewhat C12-ish for about $450 plus
body. I love it on grand piano and vocals.
