Default British vintage tube monoblock amplifier

Hi, I recently bought a vintage monoblock tube amplifier, "Astronic
A1440" (2 tubes EL34 push-pull).

Do anybody knows anything about it ?

Thanks a lot in advance

check for potentiometers behind the holes. They might for biasing the
output tubes, or matching the output tube's dc current or ac signal
(or both).

Matteo:

It is listed in the 1960 British Hi-Fi yearbook. Price was 37+ Pounds which
was VERY expensive! For reference, the Quad II was only 22+ Pounds. Rated at
20 watts nominal and 35 watts maximum output. Ultralinear circuit. It looks
very nice, only one problem: finding another one for stereo! Good luck.

Thank you very much for the information; I'm italian, I've bought it
in Edinburgh this summer. Given the conditions of the amplifier (not
working, rectifier tube missing) I paid it 40 pounds; the same price
as 40 years ago !.

Now I'm beginning to fix it, with new rectifier tube and some new
capacitors (although the electrolytics are really , I hope they are
not dried !).

In the (beautiful dark red) chassis there are some holes in the front
(for potentiometers, it seems): the original amplifier came with
controls ? So it was ready for its preamplifier ? Or it was an idea of
the owner, to drill those holes ?

One last question: where can I find a page with schematics, or
advertising, etc... On Internet I didn't find anyting.

Thank you very much in advance

Matteo

Just grab that plate in one hand, the chassis in the other,
and FEEL the power of tube audio!!!
(not literally, of course, just kidding. DON'T DO THAT!)
