Default remote mounting face plate?? Please help!

Hey guys. I want to remote just the face plate of my stereo. I will
be putting the base of the unit in the glove box. I know i can do the
wiring by just soldering a bunch of small wires from the headunit
"brain" to the back of the face. The biggest quesion that I have is,
what could i do to trigger the brain to think that the face plate is
on the unit? i'd like it so when i opened the glove box, it would act
as if i was opening the face plate.
Any ideas, or suggestions in general?

Thanks alot!!
