Default Schoeps AK2USU cable?

Hi All,

I am looking to get a Schoeps STCg Stereo Mounting Bar (ORTF) for my MK4
capsules since 85-90% of what I use the Schoeps for is ORTIF.

Schoeps has a AK2USU Y cable that is used for the system that goes from a 5
pin XLR to two-3 pin XLRs.

Is there anything special about that cable, or can I get a generic one made
up from Redco that will cost me less? The same with the Schoeps KS20U 5 pin
extension cable XLR-5F to XLR-5M?

Thanks!

There is nothing magic about either of these. However, make sure that
the pinouts are correct, because there are two popular pinouts for
5-pin XLRs. One of them uses pin 3 for ground, the other uses pin 1,
and you need to know which one you want before you have cables made up.

I forget which one Schoeps uses except in that it's different than the
one Sony uses.

Incidentally, if you are tempted to use star-quad cable for the 5-pin
stereo, it works, but noise rejection is degraded. The interchannel
crosstalk is increased, but less than you'd think, although the coupling
between the two channels can make some stereo mikes (not Schoeps) oscillate
with long cables. The proper dual-pair cable is better but it's also a
lot heavier which is a pain when you're rolling a thousand feet back up
to take home.

Thanks Scott. I wouldn't be using anything more than 100 feet for the XLR-5F
to XLR-5M extension cable. I probably would go with a dual-pair cable. No
too bad to roll up.

Here is the Schoeps pinout I found online.

1 = G
2 = r+
3 = r-
4 = L+
5 = L-
