Default Adding auxiliary input jack to existing crappy old stereo

Just wondering if there is a relatively painless and cheap way to add
an auxiliary input jack to an existing car stereo, short of installing
a new head unit.

Thanks for any advice. I suspect it would not be worth the trouble.

What kind of stereo? Some you can get adaptors and such that will plug right
in. Some have an AUX input you just need the hook-up for, others trick the
unit into thinking there's a cd changer there...

If the Head Unit has a CD Changer socket, you may be able to use
Blitzsafe auxilliary interface with RCA inputs. Check your Head Uni
for the socket, and if you have one, 'Click here
(http://www.blitzsafe.com/blitz_catal...blitz_aux.html) an
select your vehicle

If it's a 1998+ Volkswagen or Audi head unit, you can use the CD changer
input using a VWCDPIC to trick the head unit. I have schematics and
firmware available in the developer's area of my website.

My apologies for not including more information. The car in question
is a 1988 vw golf 4-door, one of the last built in a Detroit factory.
I found a source for fm transmitters with better wattage than the
Itrip or other weak units, so will probably go with that kludgey
solution. Thanks for your advice.
