How to Lose a War in Ten Days

Look at what we have lost even if the military succeeds in all the
objectives they have set for themselves. The cost in billions of dollars
that could have been used to improve education, rebuild highways provide
health care and job training can never be recouped. The damage done to our
international relations and our image in the world as a proponent of freedom
cannot be easily or quickly undone. The erosion of our faith in elected
leaders, even when they are not the ones that we voted for will not return
any time soon after we have been offered a smorgasbord of ever changing
justification that have too often been shown to be contrived, erroneous or
unjustified.

Nizar al-Khazraji

Alive
The news emerged after a tapped conversation of Khazraji's sons' mobile
telephones, including one call, ostensibly from Khazraji himself, on 11
April af 17.20.
Nizar al-Khazraji
The media dubbed Khazraji "the poison general." With his face all over
newspapers and television, it didn't take long for witnesses to come forward
with stories of his involvement in the 1988 Anfal campaign, established by
the Iraqi regime to rid the country of Kurds. Close to 200,000 Kurds were
killed - 5,000 when nerve and mustard gas were dropped over the town of
Halabja.

al-Khazraji, who assisted in the poison gassing of Iran during the late
1980s, aided by the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations. Iraqi
National Liberal (INL) is an opposition group made up of other exiled former
Iraqi military officers. According to the Center for Cooperative Research,
the INL has recently attempted to recruit General Nizar al-Kharraji, who is
under investigation in Denmark for the 1988 slaughter of 100,000 Kurds.

September 1988, Iraqi troops swept through the highlands of Iraqi Kurdistan
rounding up everyone who remained in government-declared "prohibited zones."
More than 100,000 Kurds, mostly men and boys, were trucked to remote sites

Iraq energy oil information
Iraqi oil reserves vary widely in quality, with API gravities in the 24o to
42o range. Iraq's main export crudes come from the country's two largest
active fields: Rumaila and Kirkuk. The southern Rumaila field produces three
streams: Basra Regular (normally 34o API, 2.1% sulfur, but apparently
deteriorating); Basra Medium (30o API, 2.6% sulfur); and Basra Heavy
(22o-24o API, 3.4% sulfur). The northern Kirkuk field, first discovered in
1927, normally produces 37o API, 2% sulfur crude, although the API gravity
reportedly has fallen in recent years.

Back from Iraq, a witness to genocide
AGR Online/ World News - For nearly 11 years, since the beginning of the
Persian Gulf War, Iraq has been under the constant siege of a US/UK-led plan
that has devastated the formerly prosperous Iraqi nation. As a consequence,
an estimated 1.5-2 million Iraqi citizens - most of them children - have
been killed as a result of sustained aerial bombings, a decimated
infrastructure, a poisoned environment, and economic sanctions that have
effectively strangled Iraq's ability to recover.

Other less direct evidence also points to the likelihood that it was Iraq,
not Iran, who gassed the Kurds in Halabja. Human Rights Watch obtained a

against Kurdish civilians in 1987 and 1988, killing at least 50,000,
according to Human Rights Watch. And Physicians for Human Rights has proven
conclusively through chemical analysis of soil samples that Iraq used Sarin

Memo on the Margin - 12-14-00 - I'm fairly certain the claim that Saddam
Hussein used chemical warfare against Iraqi Kurds was part of the
demonization campaign against Iraq in preparation for the war against that
country by the U.S. and its allies. . . . Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdish
Democratic Party had united and had joined in Iran's war efforts against
Iraq.
Iraq's Use of Nerve Gas
NYTimes.com Review - October 18, 2002 - In March, after a battle during the
Iran-Iraq war at Halabja, we criticized Iraq for ''its extensive unlawful
use of chemical weapons against both military and civilian targets,'' while
noting that Iran also appeared to have used chemical weapons

Memo on the Margin --
BRITISH USE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS IN IRAQ, KILLING KURDS IN THE OLD DAYS
In his recent speech, President Clinton, accused those us who opposed his
war policy of "not remembering the past." Well, here is a piece of the past
that Messrs. Clinton and Blair would prefer that we forget. To my knowledge
Britain has never apologized, or compensated the victims of these war
crimes, and indeed the chief war criminal is still a national hero.
In 1989 Rumsfeld Opposed UN Investigation of Saddam
Jason Leopold: The Bush and Reagan administrations also declined to punish
Iraq when it used poison gas against Iranian soldiers in 1984 and Kurdish
citizens in 1988. Moreover, the U.S. did not oppose the fact that Hussein
bought 45 American helicopters, worth about $200 million, with assurances
they were for civilian use, then transferred them to his military.

One such think tank, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC),
published a report in September 2000 recommending policies for preserving
and expanding U.S. dominance in world affairs, including an aggressive
policy for deposing Saddam Hussein. Members of this group include Vice
President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, convicted
Iran-Contra perjurer and current National Security Council (NSC) staffer
Elliot Abrams, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and I. Lewis Libby,

Bush Lies

Bush Lies, Media Swallows
AlterNet: To cite just two particularly egregious examples, Bush tried to
frighten Americans by claiming that Iraq possesses a fleet of unmanned
aircraft that could be used "for missions targeting the United States."
Previously he insisted that a report by the International Atomic Energy
Agency revealed the Iraqis to be "six months away from developing a weapon."
Both of these statements are false,

How to Lose a War in Ten Days

Look at what we have lost even if the military succeeds in all the
objectives they have set for themselves. The cost in billions of dollars
that could have been used to improve education, rebuild highways provide
health care and job training can never be recouped. The damage done to our
international relations and our image in the world as a proponent of

freedom
cannot be easily or quickly undone. The erosion of our faith in elected
leaders, even when they are not the ones that we voted for will not return
any time soon after we have been offered a smorgasbord of ever changing
justification that have too often been shown to be contrived, erroneous or
unjustified.

The news emerged after a tapped conversation of Khazraji's sons' mobile

Nizar al-Khazraji
The media dubbed Khazraji "the poison general." With his face all over
newspapers and television, it didn't take long for witnesses to come

forward
with stories of his involvement in the 1988 Anfal campaign, established by
the Iraqi regime to rid the country of Kurds. Close to 200,000 Kurds were
killed - 5,000 when nerve and mustard gas were dropped over the town of
Halabja.

Iraqi oil reserves vary widely in quality, with API gravities in the 24o

to
42o range. Iraq's main export crudes come from the country's two largest
active fields: Rumaila and Kirkuk. The southern Rumaila field produces

three
streams: Basra Regular (normally 34o API, 2.1% sulfur, but apparently
deteriorating); Basra Medium (30o API, 2.6% sulfur); and Basra Heavy
(22o-24o API, 3.4% sulfur). The northern Kirkuk field, first discovered in
1927, normally produces 37o API, 2% sulfur crude, although the API gravity
reportedly has fallen in recent years.

Said K. Aburish, author of "Saddam Hussein: The Politics of Revenge," who
worked with Saddam in the 1970s, has said that the CIA's role in the coup
against Qassim was "substantial." CIA agents were in touch with army
officers who helped in the coup, operated an electronic command center in
Kuwait to guide the anti-Qassim forces, and supplied the conspirators with
lists of people to be killed.

Back from Iraq, a witness to genocide
AGR Online/ World News - For nearly 11 years, since the beginning of the
Persian Gulf War, Iraq has been under the constant siege of a US/UK-led

plan
that has devastated the formerly prosperous Iraqi nation. As a

consequence,
an estimated 1.5-2 million Iraqi citizens - most of them children - have
been killed as a result of sustained aerial bombings, a decimated
infrastructure, a poisoned environment, and economic sanctions that have
effectively strangled Iraq's ability to recover.

Myths and misconceptions about Iraq
Other less direct evidence also points to the likelihood that it was Iraq,
not Iran, who gassed the Kurds in Halabja. Human Rights Watch obtained a
tape of Ali Hassan al-Majid, the Iraq commander in charge of the campaign,
telling Iraqi politicians in 1987 or 1988 that "I will kill them all [the
Kurds] with chemical weapons!" Moreover, Iraq waged a brutal campaign
against Kurdish civilians in 1987 and 1988, killing at least 50,000,

Bush Lies, Media Swallows
AlterNet: To cite just two particularly egregious examples, Bush tried to

Previously he insisted that a report by the International Atomic Energy

Radical libs do not like being succint.
It reminds me of when I was in college. Sen Adlai Stevenson, Jr.
came to speak. One of our dear radical lib students launched into
a seventeen minute unintelligible polemic diatribe disguised as a
question, after which Sen. Stevenson replied with a simple "no".
