Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I have an Empire turntable. The
cable between the tonearm and the receiver is going bad. I'd like to replace
the cable. The male plug at the tonearm looks like a 5 pin DIN but I can't
find it in a catalog. Can anyone recommend a source for either the plug or
the whole cable? If not, the plug features a lot of molded plastic, would it
be possible to cut away a lot of this, desolder the old cable, solder in a
replacement and get adequate strain relief with heat shrink tubing?

Dave M. : I have spent 2 years looking for a replacement factory cable
for an Empire 598.They don't exist. I've contacted most of the small
turntable and cartridge specialists. No luck. To confuse matters more,
Empire used different cables on different models. Its definitely not a
standard DIN cable. I finally bought a spare table in bad repair just
for the cable (and the cartridge sled, something else that is
non-existent). I think the best solution would be to have the cable
connections converted to high quality RCAs (there's an oxymoron). A
good etech should be able to do it.

Converting to phono plugs is an excellent idea and well within my
capabilities. Thanks for the idea.
