Default Hitachi FT-J2; HA-J2 cable

A Hitachi FT-J2(tuner-preamp), HA-J2(Power amp) came in with a missing
6-p DIN interconnection cable. These are part of a 1980's
mini-component system purchased in Europe or Africa.

This cable supplies power to the tuner-preamp and returns signal to the
power amp. Does anyone know the pin-out for this cable?

I walked through enough of the PC traces to figure out which pins carry
audio and which carry power, and made-up a straight pin for pin cable
including a connection between the connector shells. Either this is not
the correct pin-out or there is an unrelated problem. The tuner is
obviously working and I can faintly hear the stations, but all the
inputs except TAPE are muted.

The audio pins and one power supply (about 4V) and it's ground are
obvious, the function of the other two pins is not obvious. One pin has
about 8V and the other is at zero. None of the pins is connected to the
chassis.

You should first get in touch with Hitachi by phone, not email, and ask for
their parts department, or their authorized parts distributor. They get
thousands of emails and will not usually answer emails. See if you can first
get an original part. If not, ask about getting the service schematics for
your unit. They will charge for the schematics. These are not free and are
copyright material. With the schematics you can then see the interconnect
wiring, and the connector types, in order to be able to buy the necessary
parts and show the information to have someone make the cable.

If this is a lot of trouble for you, then give the set out to a service
shop, and they can do all the enquiries and work for you. This will be worry
free, and you know it will work. Some shops may refuse the work, because
they would think you don't want to pay the for the time and parts involved.
Make sure you tell them up front that you are willing to pay the expenses.
