Default Are XM and Sirius not using Head Units anymore?

I recently had my Sirius/Kenwood deck installed moved to my new car,
and was told that Sirius and XM had both decided to only use rf
modulators from now on.

Is this correct?

They are coming out with universal modules to works with various radios,
like being able to get sirius on an Alpine deck. Suppose to be cool.
