Hi RATs!

"I ain't lookin' to enlighten you,
frighten you, or uptighten you.
All I really want to do-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
is maybe be friends with you."

(apologies to Mr. Z)

Funny how a newsgroup can wander off the topic and still be somehow
interesting.

I replaced the cathode bypass capacitor in each A7 with a 47uF 16V KS.

May 2003, for the cognisenseless

Wow! Amp still sounds OK, 24 hours later.

Then, the NOS rectifier arrived! The GT unit in place rectified OK, but
arced on turn on. Annoying, even though I only power cycle a few times
a week. The G is slight lower ratings, but, doesn't arc on turn on and
sounds OK. The A7 is not a challenge to the G tube's ratings ...

I didn't get into this hobby to find out 1956 was a good year for DIY
tube amp kits, but, I am not at all unhappy to find out 8^D

Happy Ears!
Al

Maybe putting a series resistor in each leg of the power transformer
to plates would have stopped that, by bringing the series DC resistance
in line with the minimum specified in the tube manual. Better yet use a
silicon diode in there and ease the load on the power transformer that

Hi RATs!

The A7 amps are learning/teaching my CDs very well. I don't think it
matters if I am teaching/learning to enjoy the sounds more. I am
enjoying the sounds more.

Nothing whatever may change in the entire electro/magnetic/acoustic
system but my attitude when I change parts and twiddle bits. I don't
care, I enjoy the fantasy of change every bit as much as the real
thing, as if there ever was one ... sigh.

I assume none of my listening sessions was ever perfect, so, even if I
only fail to notice a few more flaws this time, it seems better to me.
You are free to think whatever you want. Unless you are funny or
charming, I really don't want to hear about your thoughts. I only want
to broadcast my wonderful joy:

JOY! JOY! JOY!

Ren and Stimpy, this is our bus

Happy Ears!
Al

PS the arcing tube stopped when another part was substituted. Changing
the system to pretend a flaky part is OK is not a good practice. OK,
maybe, after elections, but, mere machines can be held to a higher
standard
