Default Highest output 10" sub in .75cf sealed box with 300 watts?

Need a sub to go behind the 3rd row seat in my 2000 Expedition. I have
a sealed box with about .75cf. Can someone suggest the highest output
10" sub I can use for about $150. Thanks .

Ephedra, I would probably go with JL's 10W3V2. You can find new one's on
Ebay in your price range. Those subs are more effiecent, I believe, than
some of those monsters designed for 1000's of watts. But, if you decide to
get a more powerful amp in the future, they can handle it.

Of course, if you are willing to buy used, you can find even better subs on
Ebay in your price range.

I would go with a Alpine Type R SWR-1042D or SWR-1022D depending on the amp
that you are using.

Power handling rms 500W
Xmax (millimeters) 18.2
Sealed Box Volume (cubic feet) 0.5 - 0.8
Ported Box Volume (cubic feet) 0.6 - 1.3

2 ebay sellers have them for under $130 brand new and shipped.

JL's 10W3V2

Power handling rms 300W
Xmax (millimeters) 14.7

I second that. They will handle every bit of power you give them up to
around 700-750 rms if you know how you adjust your amp accordingly. What a
great sub. If only I could have afforded one when I bought my Pioneer. I
may still go after one in the near future and sell my pioneer. I absolutely
love the Type R.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention, my amp is 300 watts at 2 ohms. I
notices the 10W3V2 is either 4 or 1 ohm, correct?

I bought a pair of the type R 12's last summer because my amp (mtx 1501D) was
overkill for the cheap sony subs that I had. Installed them and cranked up the
gain on my amps just a little more and drove around for an hour by the time I
got home my ears were hurting. At this point i'm thinking man thats sick my
amp is got to be in thermal melt down, checked the amp and it didnt even get
warm. I just bought another matching amp and two more type R 12's and soon as
the warm weather gets here I'm ripping out the back seat and installing
everything their. Can't wait to hear that extra 3db. I know that the 4 12's
will move enough air to do a hair trick and thats kinda cool in it self lol.

What kind of enclosure and how much power per sub are you running?

3.5 cu. ft. ported enclosure. MTX 1501D @ 2 ohms, 750watts rms per sub.

Here is a video

I believe you can get it wiht 2 - 4 ohm voice coils, you can then wire it
for a 2 ohm load.

IMO You aren't going to get very much output from a single 10" woofer in
that airspace, there's just not enough displacement there. Hope for the
depth and get an spl 10".

A decent 10, but IMO won't get you what you want.

Would I be better off with a 12" sub in a larger sealed box? I would
have to make the box myself to squeeze it in back there.

IMO Yes, 12" of sub is the least in that vehicle. For myself, since
there is room, I'd go 15".

But not knowing your listening tastes/experiences/needs, its hard to
recommend.

That is all dependent upon the 10" that he chooses. If he goes with a
Pioneer 10", than he probably wouldn't be happy. But if he went with an RE
XXX 10", that puppy's got 32mm Xmax, and I've heard nothing but great things
about this sub. Now, for a budget, these probably aren't the best (not sure
what they cost, but I'm sure it's not cheap). But, as for this guys budget,
$150 probably will not be satisfactory for a bunch of output.

Xmax in and of itself does not make a woofer.

Not to mention RE is way over priced IMO.

Very true on both statements, but excursion is definitely helpful. A JL
Audio 10W7 would sound great in his setup, however it too is very expensive
and questionably overpriced. But well worth the money if you ask me. I
just can't afford one or I would.

Many people that compare the two side-by-side end up liking the Diamond
Audio D9 (TDX) sub a bit better than the W7. And its cheaper to boot.

I'd love to hear one of those.. I don't think there's a local dealer for
Diamond around Panama City. Maybe when I get back to Houston, I'll check
one out. I keep hearing that, but haven't been able to confirm.

When the shop I go to here in Iowa aquired JL products after their
competitor up the street went out of business, the GM had their
installer build a box specified by JL for a 13w7, and a box specified by
Diamond for a 12d2 TDX (D9). The boxes ended up being the same volume
for the box and roughly the same size. They swapped each one in turn
into their demo vehicle run off of a Directed 1100D amplifier (the same
I'd be using) and demoed the same tracks. So everything was identical
except for the subs and boxes (which were nearly identical themselves).
I chose the TDX and I now have 2. After that, the manager told me 9/10
people that listened went for the Diamond than the JL in a side by side
comparison. The remaining just wanted the JL for name recognition and
awe-factor. They are definitely worth a listen.
