Default Anyone with 02R Version 2 - Weird behavior, never seen!

Got a serious problem that I never had today: On startup of my 02R
(Version 2) mixing board, its screen behaved weirdly. I first get a

1. A screen image I had never seen before (in over 7 years !) : the
Earth with a clock, and a message stating : ''Upgrade is in
progress'', then : ''Converting Scene Memories'', then :

2. Faders all UP then all DOWN, then moving in a scene (have no idea
which one...)

3. Then a flashing message : ''DI0 Error (Slot 1, 2), then :

4. a window with : ''PLEASE CONFIRM : Refuse 2TR-D1'' and options :
CANCEL or EXECUTE (the latest in bold).

However, nothing happen no matter if I try to CANCEL or to CONFIRM.

I have no idea what the problem can be...

My setup :

02R is slaved to FRONTIER DESIGN DAKOTA (and had been this way for
over 6 years), connected by lightpipe.

It now looks like there no more scene memories, and lots of buttons
are now blinking....

Thanks,

Robert

I don't exactly know what has caused your problem, but it sounds like
the firmware has got itself tangled up. About a year ago, an 02R
completely crashed on me during an auto mix as if someone had performed
a "factory reset" on it. Everything was gone, but the desk functioned
normally after that.

The first message you mentioned is what you'd get if you were doing a
firmware upgrade. Have you recently connected a MIDI or USB device to
your desk? BTW, after a firmware upgrade, all the memories are wiped
(scenes, input and output routings etc).

What caught my attention was your points 3 and 4. I use a pair of 02R's
(version 1) cascaded together at the church I attend, and they have
recently started doing a similar thing (although without the loss of
stored data). We now have 3 MOTUs connected by light pipe to the 02Rs
which then go into a Mac running Logic. If the Mac is switched off, we
get many "Sync Error Slot 1" or "Sync Error 2TRD1" messages popping up.
The difference now is that before the MOTUs and Mac were part of the
system, the sync error message would just pop-up and then disappear, but
now when a sync error appears, it immediately jumps to the DIO screen
and aborts whatever action you were previously working on (like typing
in the name of a scene you are saving).

In my situation, it appears that the problem has something to do with
the fact that the 02R is now confused as to where it is getting its word
clock source from. If I switch the Mac on, then the sync errors go away
and the 02R knows where its sync source comes from.

Is your desk permanently in this state, or is it now usable (albeit reset)?
What device is used as your word clock source? Has this
changed/crashed/been switched off?
If the word clock source is external, then has the light pipe carrying
word clock into the 02R been damaged?
Have you called Yamaha about it?

Now that your desk is completely banjaxed you may as well try a firmware
upgrade. You can download that from here
