CPU mixing versus DSP mixing !
I was really a nightmare mixing via Cubase 5 or even SX which sounds the
around the same if you use 32 bit files from the very start, or even Samplitude ,which is considered and its true, to sound a little better. I never was satisfied , there always have been phase problems. I could never have a solid bass without having some notes to pump up or down, and was very difficult to make different instruments mix together. I used a lot of compression for indivindual tracks (mostly this amazing Endorphin free plugin !!) to make mixing easier and more anolog sounding. Yes I have recorded on analog some good time ago and I know its sound... So I was thinking that while Ensoniq Paris, Soundscape, or even Protools have a good name for their sound it must be DSP oriented ! Cpu does everything ,even your coffe, so how could it have things right ? So I bought a Creamware Pulsar II (X-mas package with free software !!!) and use its Big mixer II , a 48/96 surround digital console based solely on the card's dsp. The sound is awesome. You have to try itto believe. The eq MEQ4 is superb sounding and yes I have Oxford Eq via my two powercore's. Everything has changed since then,(three weeks back). So my point here is that dsp based mixing does it way better than cpu mixing. Now instruments have their own place in the mix and its close to what I was used back in the old days. Dimitrios |
