finding resonant frequency
Hi, the stage in the club i work in is like a concrete bunker set above a
bar. It has a low ceiling and brick walls. out of interest i would like to do some maths and see if i can work out the resonant frequency etc. can you give me any pointers on were to start. Thanks Andy |

Thanks Andy Cant remember the equasion off the top of my head but have you thought about using using an RTA? It would save the brainache A room such as he describes could never be assesed accurately with an RTA... at least IMHO. The modes would change virtually inch by inch along all three axis and dB by dB of increase or decrease. As a matter of fact, until there is some serious absorption put into play, it can only be a nightmare. You could however, get in the ballpark, and maybe that's all he needs. http://www.mcsquared.com/modecalc.htm http://www.mcsquared.com/ssdesign.htm http://www.doctorproaudio.com/doctor...ladores_en.htm http://www.sengpielaudio.com/Calculations03.htm http://arts.ucsc.edu/EMS/Music/tech_...des/Modes.html Stuff... http://www.saecollege.de/reference_m...nt%20Chart.htm http://www.rane.com/library.html http://www.acousticsfirst.com/ http://www.edasolutions.com/Groups/T...usticsCalc.htm http://www.silcom.com/~aludwig/Room_acoustics.html http://users.telenet.be/educypedia/e...latoraudio.htm http://www.hobbyprojects.com/calcula...alculator.html http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/ac...bels-t_27.html Here's a good forum for questions... http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/u...bb=forum&f=26& http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html -- David Morgan (MAMS) http://www.m-a-m-s.com Morgan Audio Media Service Dallas, Texas (214) 662-9901 _______________________________________ http://www.artisan-recordingstudio.com |

Do a google search for "room mode calculator" and you should see a bunch of gadgets on the web where you just punch in room dimensions and it spits out mode frequencies. If your low ceiling is a drop ceiling, though, it can cause an additional set of problems, because now you have actually two rooms. There's a big one on bottom and a small one on top and a flexible diaphragm (at low frequencies) separating them. Harder to model, and also almost universally a sonic problem on the low end. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
