I'm having a problem with a new

Pioneer DEH-2800MP

It fails to save custom EQ and radio station settings once the key has
been removed. Has anyone had this problem before? Not necessarily with
this particular model. The car itself is a Vauxhall Corsa 1998 Diesel
- I'm only new to driving about a month, but this stumps me. I would
have thought the radio unit itself would contain memory for settings
and not rely on a steady stream of battery power?

no, it needs a steady stream of battery power. There is no internal
rechargeable battery in head units. There should be two power wires
hooked up for the head unit, one that's constant +12v, and the other
that is wired to an accessories wire that only comes on when the
vehicle is turned on. sounds like you didn't hook up the first one.

That's the thing though, it's - what I think you call - an ISO
connection. The box connector. I will look into this though, thanks
for the right direction.

I tried one time for my boat, to wire in a big capacitor, because I didn't want
to keep power connected. It worked. I forget how long the storage time
was.

hmm. well perhaps your connector doesn't connect to the right wire or
something? if you look at the connector and can't find anything wrong,
I'd snip the constant power line from the head unit and wire it to
somewhere you know it'll stay on, either by the fusebox or directly to
the battery.

This is a common problem and 99% of the time it is because both the power
wire (that SHOULD be connected to the battery) and the ignition wire (which
tells the HU to turn on when the key is turned) are BOTH connected to the
ignition wire. This is why all the presets are lost when the key is turned
off. As alreadt stated, a HU DOES NOT have any internal battery and MUST
have a constant connection to the battery to retain presets, tome control
settings, etc.

Yes, that is entirely correct. I just swapped over the red and yellow
(ignition and constant) wires and everything works now as it should.

I re-searched Google using wire colour terms and found the same
question/answer, so as I said - thanks for pointing me in the right
direction, i'm well chuffed now!
