would like to hear from other windstream users if this is a national, local,

I still have windstream broadband service just I have to use my peoplepc

Can't say for Windstream, but several ISP's have cut USENET groups
recently.
Verizon is one of the big ones.

Usenet is pretty much on life support at the moment.

Twitter, Blogs, social sites etc have replaced it and many of the younger
folks have no idea that Usenet even exists.

Also the binary groups put a huge load on the servers and of course the
RIAA is all over these ISPs to ditch binary groups so it seems that the
text groups like this one are going to become casualties of war.

Usenet is alive and well and living on Usenet-specific vendor servers
around the planet. Usenet is evolving from a ISP-supported service
to a specialty-provider service (and Google Groups, of course.)
The sky is not falling. That younger folks don't know that Usenet
exists appears to be a benefit, IMHO. :-) Twitter, blogs, and other
"social sites" are NOT the same functionality as Usenet newsgroups.

Road Runner dropped newsgroups a few months ago, so I switched my news
server to Motzarella - http://news.motzarella.org/ .
