Default Studio Window Glass

I just bought a house with a 2 room basement. I am in the process of converting it into musical space and have this wall between the rooms stripped down to the studs.

I would like to put a small window between the rooms and frankly, haven't any idea what type of glass is appropriate for this type of application. I have a glass company doing other window upgrades and they weren't much help but I bet they could source a glass product for this application.

Can anyone suggest what type of glass is best for this application? The glass company suggested double paned laminate but I would like to hear from professionals.

You want double-paned laminate BUT you want it mounted so that it's cocked
slightly up or down so acoustical reflections don't strike you right in the
face.

Soundproof Windows Inc. sells a bunch of windows for studio use. They are
good, although I haven't compared them with homebrew jobs directly. They
have really cool promotional coffee mugs at the trade shows.

Also you don't want panes to be evenly spaced. As
Dorsey suggested, glass tilted down - on both sides,
so they are farther apart at top. Reduces sympathetic
transmissions of sound.

Thanks to all for excellent advice. A glass company rep suggested lam glass for the basement windows which I intend to replace as they are single pane and kind of shabby. He said the lam glass is about 1/4" thick, like auto glass. I don't do loud sound but I don't want to disturb my neighbors, so that's important to me.

It's not the thickness so much as the number of panes and space between
them.

Not entirely. Laminated glass is stiffer and better dampened than plate
glass so transmits less vibration even as a single pane. Clearly
multiple panes of laminated glass is even better, so it depends on your
budget and other factors.

Trevor.
