Default 2 x 250W rms amples vs one 400W Earthquake (enough power??)

I found someone that can cut me a good deal. I can get 2 ample audio 12"
ACWD subs (250Wrms) for a little more than I would pay for 1 earthquake DBX
400w RMS. I suppose the 2 subs would give better sound quality.

I have 300Wrms available to feed the subs with.

The 2 subs will be configured in a dual voice coil series-parallel setup so
that the impedance of both of them is still 4 ohm. I am just scared that I
might blow the subs with 300w or that (if 250w + 250w = 500W) I might not
have enough power to drive them.

Any comments?
