Default Problem connecting Fostex D2424LV to Behringer DDX3216

Help! I have a problem with my recently purchased recorder and mixer
setup. I am connecting a Fostex D2424LV digital recorder (adat
digital outputs) to the Behringer DDX3216 digital mixer (adat inputs).
When I connect the Fostex analog outs to the Behringer analog ins, it
works OK (but only 16 inputs). Now, I've installed two Behringer adat
I/O cards in the 3216 and connected the 2424. Only three channels of
the 3216 are receiving a noisy, distorted signal. What am I doing
wrong?

Hi Mike,

It sounds like you don't have the Behringer and Fostex synchronized. I
don't know anything about the Behringer but I have a Fostex D2424LV.

I'd recommend syncing your mixer to the recorder but the other way around
will work too. Get the manuals out for both units, surround yourself with
lots of comfort food and start reading. ( IMPORTANT : keep in mind, it's the
Fostex manual that sucks, not you! ;-)

In the following I'll assume that you are going to have the D2424LV be the
sync master :

connections :
Connect a Word Clock cable from the Word Clock output of the D2424LV to the
Word Clock in of the Behringer.
Connect three lightpipe cables from the outs of the Behringer to the ins of
the D2424LV.
Connect three lightpipe cables from the outs of the D2424LV to the ins of
the Behringer.

Fostex setup :
In the D2424LV setup menu set 'Clock Sel?' to 'Int'
In the D2424LV setup menu set 'D.in?' to 'adat: Async'
In the D2424LV setup menu set 'D.out?' to 'adat'

Behringer setup :
In your Behringer menus make sure that it's set to sync to the incoming word
clock.
Also make sure that if any of the physical channels are shared between the
digital and analog inputs you have them assigned appropriately for what you
are trying to do.

For more info on the Fostex see pages 118 through 123 of the D2424LV manual.

The above isn't the only way to set things up but it 'should' work.

Best of luck!
