Anyone here know about CD test tone discs?

The way television people deal with levels is to use AGC devices at every stage in the chain instead of actually setting reference levels. This means that by the time it gets from the main studio through the syndicator and the network, the local affiliate and the cable headend, you can hear at least a dozen pumping away at the same time. I take back what I posted later. Here is a pic from a UK local TV station. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6f909b22.png -- *I don't have a solution, but I admire your problem. * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

"Dave Plowman (News)" wrote in message ... What I was taking issue with was that although you may get a perfectly correct line up from a 'pro' facility, what's on the file may not bear that much relationship to it. ;-) Like quite severe clipping. I'm sure you'd not let anything like that leave you, but I've seen it so often to know plenty do. Well all recent pop CD's have severe clipping too, but it's quite deliberate unfortunately. Trevor. |

Thanks for the suggestion on the test disc. I bought one and it has some
useful stuff on it - especially the music tracks. Some good imaging tests. Gary Eickmeier wrote in message ... Bob: Cut through the sturm un drang in this thread and get THIS DISC: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00000...&robot_redir=1 I keep mine in a safe, along with the deed and my VOMeter. Track #8 is one minute of full-scale 1kHz sine. Get a reading of .3-.5V and you should be rockin'! More info: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...oo-hot.350381/ |

Some good imaging tests. I did buy one 30 years ago, (not to mention test records and tapes 40+ years ago) but for the last 20 years I've simply made my own test CD's, or *far* more often simply used a computer output to generate the test signals directly. Far easier to both generate and measure at the same time that way. Unless you are actually measuring a CD player of course, but I rarely use one of those these days either, when it's far easier to use a computer or media player to play tracks. (Next thing someone will tell us how to *buy* a digital test file for iPods! :-) :-) Trevor. |
