Hello


So I just won a NJB3 on eBay as a start to getting decent recording
gear on a budget.

I'm pretty set on the Sound Devices MixPre which I can buy locally for
$650CDN. As for the mic, I was recommened the Sennheiser K6 as a good
starter for under $1000CDN (think $800US). I would be using this to
build a sound library at the moment, but it should still be good enough
quality to use for work purposes as well until I can afford something
much better. Changeable capsules would be preferred. Is anyone using
the AKG ULS or Blue Line? Has anyone compared the quality between these
and the K6 line? What other brands/mics might I look at?

Why a shotgun of all things?

If you're trying to get dialogue out of the muck, a used Sennheiser 416
is your best buy.

But for general effects gathering, a shotgun is the last thing I would
pick.

2. Which ATs breakdown and how?
3. Some battery powered mics and some cameras with phantom power can create
an antagonistic situation in which the mic sounds better on battery than it
does on phantom power.

Dunno the model... short shotgun. Physically coming apart at the
horizontal seam, suddenly going all tinny sounding, and occasionally
just dropping dead. And I repeat, even when they're working they don't
sound all that great compared to the cheap Sennheisers.

Bear in mind we treat these things like ****, but you never heard of an
ME80 falling apart in the field and no one was ever nice to those
either.

All this despite feeling like twice the weight of an ME66...
