Default Wind sock/muff help please

Hi all,
I have a small Sony electret condenser stereo mic ( ECM-DS70P ) which I
use with my MD recorder.

Its fine except its sensivity to even slight wind when recording outdoors,
so I want to make my own 'windsock' or 'muff' (not sure exactly what they're
called)

So what should I use?

I doubt if I can buy one off the shelf for such a small mic and if I could,
its likely to be overly expensive.

Would something fashioned from fluffy lambs wool do?

TIA,
Mark Kelepouris.

A friend just made a windsock himself that was an imitation of the
Rycote
"softie" style windscreen. He got a piece of long-haired synthetic
fur from a fabric
store, and sewed it over a big foam windscreen. This sort of thing
will help for wind made when movin the mic, or a light breeze
outdoors. For any real wind you'll have to protect the whole mic and
the connector. Go look at the pictures on Rycote's and Lightwaves
sites, and experiment. I once made a very effective windcreen
(although heavy) out of
wire mesh, muslin and acoustifoam in layers. The main goal is the
creation of a dead air zone around the whole mic.

Try: www.trewaudio.com. Look for the microcat line of windsocks.

The "Microcats" really are the only kind of "muff" windscreen for really
small mics that works I have found. Trying to kill wind noise on a non-omni
lavalier mic outside in a breeze is very difficult, beleive me. The guys on the
movie production group suggested them, and Trew was kind enough to send a demo.
They were about $45, and they should fit your Sony stereo mic if it's a mini
mic like the one I have for my old Sony D6.
