Default Flash memory recorder without built-in memory. Is there one?

Have you heard of a flash memory recorder that does NOT have built-in
memory?

I want to use the recorder just for it's recording function, not as a
portable. When done recording, I'll take the flash memory out and
carry it over to a PC for listening. The recorder will stay connected
to the audio source.

All the flash memory recorders I've seen have a built-in memory chip,
and only use the additional memory chip when the built-in is full.
Which will force me to carry the recorder with me. I just want to
leave the recorder connected to a radio, and carry the flash memory
with me.

Help?

Thanks,
Bill Pieterouiski

Until you're clear on the concept i wouldn't buy anything. You ain't
buying memory, you're buying a portable recording device with
removeable memory, mic preamps, limiters and phantom. The 64 meg chip
is a throw in and it's too small to be any use. B&H bundle the
recorder with a 1 or 2 gig card. A PMD670 with 1 gig is $900.

You want quality you have to spend the bucks.

Or get a Nomad Jukebox 3 with 20 times or more the capacity, for about 1/4
the price. Oh, yes you'll have to line up some mic preamps with the ca. $750
that you'll have left over.

Yes, but don't expect good ergonomics, the same level of reliability,
decent metering, decent technical support, and a long list of other
important stuff.
