"Bassiest" component 6.5-inchers for 03 Civic Si hatch
Hey, y'all.
I want to change out my front speakers. I don't want to fill up half the hatch with a sub, so I'd like something with some decent punch. (Those $170 BassLinks on eBay are tempting, tho...) I don't listen to booty rap or anything like that...just rock, alternative, folk, acoustic, etc...so clarity is important, too. Can you guys recommend anything that'd work well with a decent headunit (25w RMS)? I'd like to avoid installing an amp if possible. (BTW, anybody know if there's a kit to install a double-DIN headunit in my car?) I've already changed out the rear speakers with a pair of Alpine Type-S's because it was so easy and they were so pathetic-looking with their plastic baskets...the fronts aren't nearly as terrible...though they're still not anything special. Thanks in advance, Adam |

How much do you plan on spending. I have a set of CDT Eurosports in my SI
and they sound awesome but are quite expensive, you may try the CDT HD line (they have a bit more midbass, a more laid back tweeter) and are considerably less. Try www.thezeb.com . They are an authorized dealer and usually have good prices. You will need to put a spacer in and cut the sheetmetal on the door to fit them though "Adam Drew" wrote in message ... Hey, y'all. Thanks in advance, Adam Unless the front speaker mount has changed since the 96/97 model, you can't get much bass there unless you reinforce the panel. I drilled a pattern of tiny holes into the plastic then covered the back with carbon fiber/epoxy. It's not great but at least the speaker doesn't fall out from all the vibration. The door area is leaky so look for speakers with lots of excursion and a high Vas. Free-air (infinite baffle) subs would be perfect. I used to have Kicker 6.5 inch free-air subs in there and they kicked ass. Too bad they're discontinued. |

What do you think about the Infinity Perfects or Alpine Type-R's? I'm open to other suggestions as well. Thx, Adam "Adam Drew" wrote in message ... Hey, y'all. I want to change out my front speakers. The Eurosports may be out, but the Cl61a's can be had for a 150 bucks, and they are very nice indeed. Nick |

Thanks in advance, Adam I have nothing but raves about my Crystal Components in my Honda Accord. They definitly can produce good bass. Vocals are excellent and highs are smooth (I got silk tweets but they offer titanium). http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCSC60S 179 bucks is a great price too. IMO they sounded better than MB Quartz and Focals costing twice as much. Much less shrill and smoother response over all, including bass. I run these front and rear, with the rear tweets attenuated. |

Adam They did have a website, but it was fairly shotty. Hopefully they spent more time on speakers than their site lol. I do like it when manufacturers have good websites though. I have had my Crystals for 2 years or so (if I recall) and no problems yet! |

I've had the 3-way set-up in our van for 3 years now with zero complaints - very nice mid-bass. keith |

Thanks in advance, Adam Unless you buy a spacer or do some cutting then the 6.5" won't fit in the front door panels. 6.25" or 5.25" however will fit just fine. Anywho you might want to try asking on www.ephatch.com. I've got some Kicker K60's in the front and rear of my '03 Si and they fit fine. Midbass is pretty good but you really need to have some baffles put in there or put some dynamat type material to help reinforce the mids. Otherwise you're not going to be happy unless you add an amp. Hope this helps, Robbie Caldwell |
