Old MOTU gear
Is there any way to use an old MOTU HD192 or 2408 'Audiowire' type
interface with a laptop ? Would presumably need either: 1 - An ExpressCard version of PCI-424 or 2 - Some sort of Firewire-to-Audiowire adaptor (driver ?) if actually physically compatible. Grateful any advice, but I do fear the answer is "no". Would have been nice .... cheers geoff |

I'd have to say no, unless you'd consider changing your concept of a "laptop" to something that's relatively portable. Dell has a small format desktop case that's about the same isn't too much bigger than a modern laptop and if you get one that's old enough, it'll have a PCI bus slot that will accommodate the card that you probably have in your present computer. You could have a two-bag portable solution with one bag for the computer, interface, and computer, and the other for a monitor, keyboard, and a pair of headphones. A more sensible person would get a modern multichannel USB interface to go with a more modern laptop. But a sensible person, also, would be bothered by the fact that you probably won't be able to get any money out of your present MOTU interfaces. -- For a good time, call http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com |

Audiowire uses the same connectors as Firewire but that's about where the relationship ends. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Probably not what you need, it seems this should let you use your current PCI card interface with a laptop, but it's an extra box, and needs a PCI Express socket on the laptop as well as a mains supply, so that's 4 extra things to hump round and lose. Not too bad if you are in a studio, but not so good when out and about. http://www.dqsolutions.co.uk/portabledock.htm -- Tciao for Now! John. |

When you put a TI based card in a PC, both cards go invisiable....so now I have 2 2408 and 2 other cards on ebay lol.... Bill |

The connectors are the same, but they have little to do with firewire. If you put a firewire and an audiowire card in the same thing you have some issues with the drivers conflicting. Check to see what drivers have been attached to the devices before doing anything else. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
