Floorstanding Speaker reccomendations.
I don't know if my questions would be considered 'high end', but maybe
some of you have helpfull advice. Here's my situation. I currently have an Onkyo 701 reciever, Velodyne 10' sub, & a polk satellite speaker system. I purchased the satellite system for their size and ease to move from one place to another, however it is now time to upgrade. I am currently in a small room, but am moving soon and do not know what my stereos new home will look like. I would like to purchase a pair of floorstanding speakers and a center. My budget for all 3 pieces is $1200-$2000. I would not consider myself an audiophile. However, I used to occasionally read stereo magazines, and although I may not be able to describe to you what I hear or why, I can tell, and appreciate the differences in quality of sound. I use my stereo pretty close to 50/50 music/movies. When I listen to music its mostly classic or modern rock, some jazz and R & B as well. Where should I start listening, and what speakers would some of you reccomend? |

Fiond a pair of new old stock Saturn 8s and enjoy. A pair should run about $1350 or so, plus another $600 or so for the center. The S6 towers and center are a good option as well - it would save you some money - but they are hard to locate. Sound is virtually identical. |

Check into Fluance SV-10s and Fluance SB-150 sub-woofer. Available direct
from Fluance on the web. MBlax10 wrote: I don't know if my questions would be considered 'high end', but maybe some of you have helpfull advice. Here's my situation. Those were nice, but have been replaced by the the new Tannoy Sensys
speakers. The Sensys DC2 is only $1299/pair and are significantly more clear than the Saturns. They are also more attractive and take up a bit less real estate. -Bill www.uptownaudio.com Roanoke VA (540) 343-1250 "Joseph Oberlander" wrote in message ... I like Definitive Technology speakers for both front and Center.
You should wait to see the new living space, as that will seriously affect your size decision. I have not heard the Tannoys. Klipsch would be another possibility. Some system such as wheels for rolling the speakers out in front of the tv would improve your soundstage for music only listening. Separate systems for listening and home theater are a solution for many people. MBlax10 wrote: I don't know if my questions would be considered 'high end', but maybe some of you have helpfull advice. I use the Studio 60s and I highly recommend them. The cheaper Paradigms recommend above might meet your needs to, give them a listen, but the Studio 60s will sound a lot better than the top end of monitor series for about the same money. The Monitor 7s would be worth a listen if you want to keep the cost down. -- Frank Ball |

The S10 was much larger than most any speaker less than $5k/pr. so
yeah, it had huge bass. It also looked like a casket... The S8 is actually about the same as the Sensys DC2 in terms of LF output. The overall quality of the Sensys ouput is better. -Bill www.uptownaudio.com Roanoke VA (540) 343-1250 "Joseph Oberlander" wrote in message ...
