Default broken foot causes audio interference

I was running a class conference last night and during a break one of
the students came up to ask me a question. Accompanying his arrival
was a "beeppop...beeppop...beeppop" in the house sound system at about
1/2 second intervals. I noticed he was standing on my feed to the
house system with a foot in a cast. He was only there a moment and
when he left the sound disappeared. After the conference was over I
tracked him down and asked what was in his cast. Turns out he had
severely broken his foot and his doctor had prescribed an electronic
stimulus device to encourage bone growth. That's new one on me - just
thought I'd share.

interesting

what kind of cable was your house feed,

i.e.

was it shielded?
balanced?
line level or mic level?

I had a guy talking on a cell phone inject interference for a split
second as he stepped on my snake carrying mic level signals.

It was a shielded but unbalanced line level stereo run (1/8"
pc laptop output).

Years ago I was listening to Jazz in "Ethel's Place", here in Baltimore.
Ethel is Ethel Ennis. I was leaning back in my chair to a point where the
back of my head lightly came in contact with the corner of a rectangular
column. As it did, I heard a slight buzz in the PA. I "played" the buzz
keeping time with the song for a few measures, chuckled and then layed out
for the rest of the set.

This column was formed by dry wall with those metallic corner strips used to
make perfect corners. I could see a little metal showing through where my
head had been. Lord knows what electrical paths existed to cause that buzz,
but I can say that I played with Ethel Ennis.

Regards,

Ty Ford
