Default new issue - maybe some of you guys have solved this problem

I have a TASCAM CDRW-5000 that I use to make CDs from other media (right
now, from RTR tapes) - and I can't find any CD media that it will work with
any more - it works fine with older media but I just used up my last old
CD - now what? any clues?

This from TASCAM forums:

cdrw-5000 from tascam only supports 650 mb (74 minute) cdr's and
cdw's.....you can still find those on the net, ebay, etc......

that is one reason most people don't want the unit........they upgrade to
newer tascam cd writers.

namaste

IOW, modern CD writers support the 700MB CD-R/RWs and your CDRW-5000 only
supports the original 650MB discs.

That's likely your answer.

Two words:

Taiyo Yuden

Even though your burner is supposed to work with data CDs such as computers
use, you may find that it works better with music CDs, as they are designed
for burning at low speeds.

I see the responses from the others, and I sympathize. I have a Lite-On DVD
recorder that won't accept DVDs that record at any higher rate than 8X, and
I can't find 8X discs in the stores any more. I went to VSA, a vendor that
sells all manner of discs and equipment, to get some more discs.

And I started shopping for a new DVD recorder.

Did you check for a update to it? I had a hp dvd recorder that was the same
way. There was a firmware update for it that fixed it.

Thanks - I'll call them, or look it up on the web, but maybe I'd rather have
a new one anyway. The little Sony can record AVCHD output from their cameras
in High Definition and play on a BluRay player. And will record regular DVDs
on any media, including Dual Layer. Not too expensive, $179. And the march
goes on.

All DVD discs are data discs, unlike audio CDs they are not in a special
format for video.

That means that *any* DVD burner should be able to burn AVCHD files onto a
DVD, even the first one ever made.

Note that it appears that copy-protected Blu-ray video files are enciphered
in such a way that the whole disc seems to disappear from the drive, as
"seen" by non-privileged programs.

I'm holding off for the price drop on bluray media and write drives.
