Archie: a national character, BBC radio-related (but mute) oldie
Archie Andrews, the ventriloquist's enigmatic dummy who "appeared"
regularly on BBC radio for ages, drawing mega millions of faithful listeners over 40 years ago, has gone under the hammer for £34,000. It was the schoolboy prop for Peter Brough. The radio show was always recorded in a playhouse or in a studio in front of an audience and that programme had many famous actors in its cast. But who -needed- to parade a dumb dummy for Radio?! Reverently, we all knew its presence was absolutely crazy. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/4459700.stm http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm...name_page.html http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/newss...der-the-hammer http://www.yorkshiretoday.co.uk/View...icleID=1261330 |
